How to Become a Member

Membership in the Episcopal Church is through the Sacrament of Holy Baptism. This Sacrament is our full initiation by water and the Holy Spirit into Christ's Body, the Church. The bond which God establishes in Baptism is indissoluble. Through Holy Baptism we received an unearned gift of God's grace which is union with Christ in his death and resurrection, birth into God's family the Church, forgiveness of sins, and new life in the Holy Spirit.

We administer Holy Baptism within the Holy Eucharist as the chief service on a Sunday or other feast. (Book of Common Prayer, page 298) In addition to Sundays and other feasts, we reserve Baptisms as far as possible to the following special Sundays: The Easter Vigil, The Day of Pentecost, All Saints' Day,the Feast of the Baptism of our Lord, and the occasion of our Bishop's Visit.

IF YOU HAVE BEEN BAPTIZED by another Church or Denomination in the manner described above, then we record that baptism. We do not practice re-baptism. You should advise the pastor of the congregation where your membership of your intentions so that they may make necessary adjustments on their records. If there is reasonable doubt that you have not been baptized manner required by the Episcopal Church then speak to Fr. Michael, and you may elect to receive a conditional baptism.

If you are already member of the Episcopal Church, then you should contact the Rector of the congregation in which your record is held and request a letter of transfer to this congregation. If you need assistance with this, please ask Fr. Michael who will be glad to write the letter on your behalf.

The Church expects all adult members, those 16 years or older, after receiving appropriate instruction, to make a mature public affirmation of the Church's faith, to claim the responsibilities of that faith, and to receive the laying on of hands by our chief Pastor, the Bishop through the Sacramental Rite of Confirmation/Reception.
When you are ready to join then contact Fr. Michael's office and set up a time to discuss your intentions.
